Though ending in a 0-0 tie, it spawned what would eventually become what people worldwide recognize today as the World Cup. Today, televised World Cup events draw in huge crowds of viewers, with the 2006 World Cup final match between France and Italy pulling in over 715 million viewers.
Having been hosted by 17 countries around the world, the World Cup pits teams from Countries around the world against one another in a giant showdown to prove who's best. Originally only including 32 teams, it's now expanded to include up to 48 teams.
Though it's one of the world's largest spectator events, it's not without controversy. In-fact, back in 2015 FIFA was center-stage and facing allegations of criminal charges of bribery, money laundering, and fraud, accusing FIFA officials of taking bribes. This resulted in 9 FIFA officials being charged on corruption!
